Annual Jadot (plus Dau) with Frederic Barnier (RPM Steak): Double blind. Consistent with many of the wines tonight, this showed very young and fresh for its age. Lots of red cherry with a nice array of spices took me to Chambolle. Didn't scream Gevrey meatiness but a fun, interesting maturing red burg.

Louis Jadot (& Clair-Daü) Dinner with Frédéric Barnier (RPM Steak - Chicago IL): Served on its own, double blind. Charming combination of ripe red and black cherry with a firm core, and then ripe and mature again on its big finish. I correctly identified the vintage, but thought it might be Clos des Ursules based on its meaty profile, but the Gevrey 1ers were my "plan B." Exceeded what I would have expected.

Half. Bright mid ruby. Dark fruited and savoury nose, similar on palate with good acidity. A touch of meaty, earthy development and good density. Some Savoury, slightly spicy lift. Finishes a little broader than longer. Very decent and lots of interest especially on the nose. Bare ****

Half. Deep ruby to mid garnet at rim. Vibrant. Red fruit on the nose, seemingly quite plush, with sous bois complexity and a touch of rare beef. Lovely attack, plush and really quite dense fruit with complexity on the palate matching the nose. Significantly brighter, fresher and denser than previous half. This is lovely. ****

Half. Mid ruby, quite dense and bright. Lovely nose, red fruit still present but a touch of the autumnal with sous-bois and dried mushroom. Positive attack, good acidity that caries it through, soft tannin but perhaps a little under fruited on the finish. Takes on a nicely gamey component, but in this half at least, needs a a pinch more plush fruit. Possibly the format, possibly the vintage. Good though. ***
