This is a very good wine. It tastes like what a nicely aged (6 1/2 yrs) Old School Chianti Classico "normale" should taste like: good acidic structure with traditional flavors; firm, not soft; clean and assertive. Plenty of life in the old boy yet. Danced admirably well tonight with red sauced pasta and sausages, and would likely sing a memorable duet with simply grilled lamb chops.

Popped and poured. On the nose, a bit of candied fruit perhaps, along with berry, plum, maybe a hint of leather and the slightest suggestion of spice that we can't quite make out. On the palate, the tannins seem to come across very strong with the first sip, but mellow, and the berry notes do come across on the tongue as well. As another reviewer noted, it's not terribly complex, but it does seem balanced, fresh, and drinkable.

We have opened several bottles over the last couple of months and note a surprising amount of bottle to bottle variation. Some are quite good for the price and might rate in the higher 80's for depth of aroma and complexity, but this most recent bottle was very tight until much aeration, and still very strong on the sour cherry notes to the end. Frankly makes me wonder about the handling at the winery prior to bottling. Most wineries go to great lengths to assure every bottle gets the same blend from the various barrels, etc.

Cherry and other red fruits. Not complex, but in balance. Short finish.

Flat and boring but not offensive. Eggplant parm with sauce didn't help much over the non italian fare
