Holy cow this showed well, and shockingly youthful. The quality of the grapes shows here. Still some fruit despite 37 years in bottle. Structure present too, so this seriously could go another 10 years easily, which I find absolutely nuts. The wine….wonderful balance here with loads of secondary and tertiary elements. Blind, everyone guessed Bordeaux and some folks guessed old school Napa. High praise. Everyone was shocked to see Zinfandel emerge from the bag. Joel is a true master, and he made some converts in that room that evening.

Tasted blind. Stemminess on the nose and palate, maybe some whole-cluster in here? Medium+ tannin. Good acid, medium finish. Solid core of fruit. Delightful and surprising for a 37 year old Sonoma County zin!

Still has sweet fruit. But a bit angular on the finish, seems to have a dryness that is separating the wine. Nevertheless, quite enjoyable for a 37 year old Sonoma County Zinfandel.

Had a coolness on the nose, with some dark fruits and just a touch of oak, and surprisingly no real secondary or tertiary development to speak of. Lots of acidity on the palate and fruit just about holding its own. Amazing condition for its age and while no danger of it falling over I'd say not much to gain by holding further.

Dark fruit (cherry, blackberry), cedar, tobacco, good acidity. Nice fruit. Lingering finish Really enjoyable.
