  • Wedding Magnum after the Krug Magnum was corked. Still beautiful, showing strawberries and cream on the nose as well as a perfumed red berry palate with all of the great fixings of an aged Champagne. After trying more of Veuve's Champagnes since the last bottle, I realize that I am a fan of their sparkling Rose, but not so much of the others.

  • [Opened at Mott32, from magnum]
This showed even better than the first magnum I've had last year. Well developed tertiary notes of butterscotch and toffee, dried raspberries and strawberries, toast and brioche. Great delineation and all of the aromas were in balance, showing great tertiary development without being tired. Excellent! I would say peak (magnum), with at least a few more years to go.

  • Quite brown in the glass

Oxidative on the nose with caramel, orange zest, walnut, dried fruit.

    Still nice acidity and length.

    Drink.

  • [From Magnum, first of five bottles]

Amazing orange salmon hue. Nose of dried red fruit, dried raspberries, oak and cedar (someone said old cabinet). On the palette, more dried red fruit, strawberries, raspberries, rhubarb with a twinge of sour, slight earthiness, mushroom, and almond/marzipan. Residual sugar on the med+ finish. Very fine unobtrusive mousse, still effervescent (even after corking it and finishing it 6 hours later).

For being just a standard vintage rose, this was in a great stage right now. Singing beautifully with lots of complexity and the RS blends everything together. Very enjoyable, quaffable, with room to grow still. 94 pts

  • Opened to go with Madeira-braised chicken.

Not enough internal pressure to push the cork out. Pulled on it too strongly and snapped the top off so I had to gently use an ah-so and corkscrew to coax out the crumbling cork. Once it was open you could hear a faint hiss from the bottle and breathing for the first time in 26 years.

Deep salmon in colour with ever so dainty bubbles dancing on the surface. Nose was absolutely brilliant. Dried fruit compote, aged brandy, ripe field strawberries and hints of anise. Palate was surprisingly fresh and lively with a gentle fizz on the tongue. Sweet ripe red fruits giving way to excellently developed complexity of just the right balance of sweetness and umami with a touch of salinity. Flavours linger in the back of the throat long after finishing the last drop. Even though the bottle was empty at the end of the evening, you could still enjoy the beautiful aroma of the wine coating the inside of the glass.

How I wish I had another bottle.
