It has been nearly two years since I last sampled this wine. It remains deep garnet in color and still flaunts aromas and flavors of caramel, smoke, dark bramble fruits and loamy earth. Round, lightly tannic and with a slight "cough syrup" character from the (listed) 13.5% alcohol, it stays solid in the middle and closes with medium length. Surprisingly, this wine currently shows less of the "roasted" character previously noted. That said, it is time to drink up! Drink now-2016.

Deep garnet in color and showing some of the effects of the heat in 2003, this Châteauneuf is likely at its apogee. Still quite nice, it trades some of its early fruit for more "roasted" aromas and flavors. Caramel, smoke, blackberry and earth are dominant, in a round, lightly tannic frame. The alcohol (listed as 13.5%) is definitely apparent, not through heat but instead by imparting a cough syrup-like character which calls up memories of "Cheracol" in childhood. There is no gap in the middle on this wine, and the finish is at least medium in length. This excellent producer certainly did its best in this ultra-hot vintage. That said, it is not one which possesses the structure which would allow for further improvement in bottle. Drink now-2016.

Le premier jour: un peu trop d'alcool, hors de l'équilibre. Le deuxième jour: mieux qu'hier. Bouche pleine, de fortes notes Grenache, viande grillée et feuille de tabac.

Drinking great. Cheese and roasted veggies. I was expecting maybe salad dressing vinegar. Last bottle. Ah!

Très bon et constant CDP année après année. Bien équilibré malgré la canicule de 2003, il ne manquait pas d'acidité et était encore assez jeune.
