Bottle # 840316: Found this in my fathers underground cellar. A vintage from my wife and I wedding year. Very very slight leakage after taking the cork covering off. Cork came out in one piece with a light pop. Medium to dark ruby red colour with no sediment on pouring. It’s age came through on the nose with little fruit and lots of leather. Initial taste also showed its age, with licorice and dark berries just noticeable with medium length. Certainly past its peak drink by date, but did hold up with the lamb roast.

Bought from a store in Chateauneuf-du-Pape based on recommendation. Very good condition from pop and pour. Nice concentration. On the palate is red cherry and a little licorice. I found it similar to an aged Australian Syrah but more fresh and less heavy.

Opened this Xmas eve with mum and dad. Took its time, but the wine opened quite nicely. Had lost its sugar but the fruit and finish were there. Cork came out in one piece and there was evidence of leakage.

On opening, sweet grenache fruit and cloves -- usually takes a few hours for a Chateuneuf to open to this extent. No sediment. Concern about pending fruit evaporation is unrealized, as this wine then pairs beautifully with the lamb 40mins later, with tannins sufficient to tongue-scrape the lamb fat, and then the tannins, balanced w/ still juicy acid, amplify after the lamb is finished. My guess is that 56F cellaring since purchase around '93 explains the difference between this one and other reports of faded early 90s CNdPs.

Chosen to partner bangers and mash. A mistake. Should have been lamb, but in any case its charms are fading fast. In the glass, signs of age, sediment, graduated rim, On the nose, herby, rosemary, cloves, some tobacco, red fruit fading fast, some soil. In the mouth, a little thin, harsh?, nice tannins, disappointing length. I think this was great a year or two ago.
