Cork disintegrated; wine passed through muslin to strain. Muted nose when first decanted but a noble colour showed promise. Three hours later nose of plum, dried prune, earth, perhaps some leather. In mouth a big hit of sour cherries became candied on the finish, which had a slight astringency and bitterness. Tannins well-incorporated to provide silk. Impressive acid for age. This was still good the next day.

Dinner chez Arjune (Cobble Hill, Brooklyn): Bricked blood ruby -- a classic red. Wow! A big minty nose of salty beef bouillon, coffee, red plums, and geosmin -- wonderfully complex. The palate is resolved, thinning a bit; pleasing notes of horse piss (it worked here), coffee, and saddle leather. Later, huge wafts of roasted herbs show up on the palate -- a very specific character of this. Medium bodied with good, not great, length. Very nice wine, and super delicious with beef wellington. Drink up. (My wine)

Bought this 10 years ago in Tuscany. Drank tonight with roast chicken with sage, rosemary and pancetta. Garnet colored. Nose shows prunes and earth. Prunes, bittersweet chocolate, and tobacco on palette. Integrated tannins, plenty of fruit, and long finish. This was delicious and worth waiting for.
