Haven’t had a lot of Sancerre Rouge, let alone one with this much age. The cork held up and this looked good at first, all cherries and strawberries peeking out. Lacks a little mid-palate intensity... the tannins are quite coarse and dissociated a bit from the wine. High acid still. After about an hour the palate fills out a bit with some more detailed fruit. But there’s also a bit of animalé that starts to creep in, more the clove/bandaid kind of brett, gives it a sort of sweet/sour mid-palate. Tangy. Doesn’t look at all that developed for a 11 year old Pinot.

The wine was a terrific "red" (pinot noir) wine from Sancerre. We opened it and bottle decanted for about 1.5 hours. We paired the wine with grilled salmon (prepared in a cast iron skillet) with "crispy" fresh dill (that was toasted in the skillet after the salmon was done - it was close to blackened). Just wonderful! The wine was loaded wth flavors of blackberry, blueberry and some wet limestone!

Tart, lower alcohol, lighter body, good food wine. No decant, flavors really emerged after 90 minutes. Not tiring at all.

Vic's. Plummy with tomatoes and a little funk on the nose, green olives and drying tannins on the palate. Loved it, but drink up, it's time.
