This is serious pinot, and quite a good value. A touch on the austere side (wondering if some bottle age might be a plus), but not lacking in ripeness or concentration. So I think a matter of style and terroir: tart red fruits, some earth and minerality and reasonable length. Nose is fairly muted but with subtle floral notes.

2009 Sancerres Blindtasted (Tom's House, Palo Alto, California): Medium cherry red color with pale meniscus; lovely, tart red fruit, tart cherry skin, rosehips nose with a touch of brett; tasty, poised, tart cherry, mineral, cranberry palate, very Burgundian; medium-plus finish
