  • With no tasting notes in the past ten years, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. Really good mix of plum, cedar, thyme, eucalyptus. Nicely integrated tannins and acid. It has held up really well and is drinking in a sweet spot right now, if a touch hot.

  • I have always thought Lancaster did a pretty nice job with their Cabernets - some good, some great. Back in 2005 when this particular Cabernet was a new release, I thought it was one of the best young Cabs I have ever had from Sonoma County. Five years later, I opened up another bottle to see how it has progressedl.
The nose was very light, still had a trace of oak, some gun flint, and bright berry. Tannins that were dusty and peppery, yet very subtle. The flavors were pretty impressive- black licorice & black currant up front with a beautifully rich mid-palate of vanilla bean and black cherry; Dr. Pepper-like. A bit of chocolate in the finish; cookies & cream. These descriptors sound sweet, but the wine was bone-dry.
As the wine opened up, it did not really improve much. Some heat was starting to show on the finish. Otherwise this could have been 95+.
    Nice bottle of wine.
