A humble Graves (I think this ran me $20) at peak, and serendipitously excellent. This is just brimming with all the appellation-typical stuff--all that barbecue smoke and gravel. It's soft and plush and starts to lose focus after a few hours, so it's probably at peak, but I would have confused this for something much fancier. You could easily put this in a lineup with mature Pape-Clements or Domaine de Chevaliers and it would not embarrass itself. It may not be as sophisticated in shape or precision but the flavors are the same and they are as expressive here as in anything.

Good to go. Amazing wine at the price point. Tertiary notes of clay and garrigue intertwined with black currant and dark fruits. What a beauty this was.
