In a delightful place right now and a great upside surprise compared to previous bottles. Pnp'd and drunk over two-three hours. Mature Bordeaux nose of old books and bandaids with baked fruit and lightly roasted coffee beans.

Finally has that good old Bordeaux smell: specifically, old wet wool and used coffee grounds with stewed black cherry compote. Color purple with brown edges. Acidity and tannins decent. It's very drinkable--not over the hill but heading there.

Bought a 6b case of magnums from Binny's for 30/mag 12 years ago; this is #4. Decanted with normal sediment for its age and format. Dark purple; blackcurrant nose, hint of leather, following onto the palate; good mouthfeel. Tasty with some years of life ahead, unlikely to improve. Glad I have more as a good everyday Bdx, esp. for a dinner group. One of four reds (three cab-based) shared over dinner with a small group of wine friends: this had third place among those with more experience. Stored horizontally in a cool, dark basement since purchase. My evaluation: I've stopped giving scores on a "100-point scale" as I've become less convinced that they can be meaningful to others. I use a 4-category scale (perhaps with +/-)--not including flawed--which runs outstanding/notable/drinkable/poor. I considered this notable+ when considering quality, age, and price.

Past peak. Black fruit, tobacco, lots of cocoa, lower than desired acidity, soft tannins with a somewhat chalky texture--made me want to run it through a paper coffee filter.

Little buggers got away from me. Not brown but not much fruit or persistence, should have drunk them up five years ago.
