14% alcohol. CS 50%, M 45%, CF 5%. There is a white mould-like deposit on the cork under the foil, but this has no impact on the wine; the cork is of decent quality. Decanted 90mn ahead. The colour is dark with some thinning at the edge of the rim. There is a strong powdery feel to the nose at first, but this calms down over time; the rest is pleasant but fairly generic with dark fruit and the alcohol being slightly too prominent. The mouth confirms that impression: the wine is smooth with good acidity in the finish, but it feels pretty anonymous with no recognisable Pessac character. I feel the dead hand of M at work here; again, the alcohol protrudes in an ungainly fashion, more so than on the nose. It could be that the wine will improve with time, but I would not count on it. Not a repeat purchase, one can do so much better in Bordeaux or elsewhere for the same price (about 20€, although I happened to pay about half that at an auction for this bottle). I feel that with climate change, the left bank Merlots are becoming more and more of a liability.

Just like last year's - very classy and distinguished - not for "serious" wine snobs, it won't reach stratospheric heights, but it's the ideal restaurant wine or for good friends for dinner at home. It tastes better than it actually is, if you get my drift.

Youthful, no bricking, blackcurrant, sweetness, shortish finish, mild tannins. More new world style.
