The colour of this wine remains a youthful deep scarlet and shows the promise of previous bottles, but the nose is slightly roasted, with prunes and plums overwriting the earth. The palate also shows some heat. At 14.5% ABV, the subtle spice and olive notes are subdued, overwhelmed by waves of really ripe fruit. Subtle spice notes appear at the finale, late arrivals to the show. Suggest you ensure this wine is opened at cellar temperature or cooler for added freshness. Will leave remaining bottles for a few years, 2026, 17.25

An old style traditional Hunter shiraz with the typical tarry roads and black berry laden spice on the nose. The mid palate brings forward the very ripe blue and red fruit laden impact although the wine does finish a little short. Certainly requires decanting.

After an hour of decanting, the nose is filled with toasty oak, tar, hot spices, ripe red and blue berries fruits. The oak is shadowing the fruits and other more subtle elements. The palate is disjointed for the first hour. Spicy, toasty and full on entry, followed by powerful mid-palate leading to a short finish. It’s opaque structure needs a few more years to achieve better balance. 89-91 pts.

Only just opened, but the first mouthful was heavenly. Still very young, but so good now.

6 hrs in the decanter and still holding strong. Too young still, years left in the tank. Try again 2023/4.
