Cork was surprisingly sturdy but did crumble as I attempted to open it with a corkscrew. Somewhat red in color at 40 years old, but it's mostly brown in appearance. Aromas of cow dung, leather, and rotten mushrooms discourage a sip. But in the name of science - flavors are flat, bitter and altogether unenjoyable. I can't comment on the provenance.
