  • Unfortunately this bottle is clearly over the edge, a pity cause the brother Colle Grimaldesco a year and half ago was really in perfect shape. Open NOW!

  • Yum. Cloudy dark purple; some bricking around the edges. Had that characteristic gritty taste I love about Sagrantino. Herbaceous, peppery, but still plenty of fruit. Ripe and just a tiny bit sweeter than expected so based on that and color I’d say drink now.

  • Is it possible for a wine to be brooding and hedonistic at the same time? Yep. At 10 years, this is drinking beautifully. Opaque dark dark red. Nose redolent of black fruits, liquorice, white pepper, and who knows-Lots going on. Palate is just really balanced with tannins prominent but not overpowering, full body but not unctuous, and really just yummy. Fairly long finish. Paired extremely well with Lucia's polenta with meat sauce. An outstanding wine. $50 from Garagiste. While that's a LOT for me to spend on a bottle of wine, I'd say the QPR here is fair, and I've definitely had worse at that price point.

  • My pursuit of Sagrantino has finally payed off. After tasting one that I liked some time ago, I researched and purchased a variety. The first few were OK but tedious. This Tabarrini Sagrantino is epic. The fruity and herbal nose is nice, but not standout. In the glass this is dark, but not glass staining. On the palette it is rich, voluptuous with dark fruit and black cherries and tart acidity leading to layers of complexity. The dusty tannins are reminiscent of a high end Napa cab in its youth. It follows with dense structure and a medium to long finish. I paired this with some pepper jack and fresh mozzarella cheese, red pepper jelly, and rice crackers. It's ridiculously good. I bought this bottle through an online auction and don't see any more available. Its a pity, I would stock up if I could find more. I look forward to finishing the bottle tomorrow.
