Palate: dry, very high tannin, medium acid, high alcohol (15%), full body, medium+ intensity, medium+ finish, some bitterness, blackberry, black plum, raspberry preserves, blueberry, black tea, mint, tar, clove, fudge, smoke, prune, candied cherry, fig.
Overall: A huge wine, with loads of tannin and alcohol. The aromas and flavors are dominated by ripe and dried dark fruits, but there are also some interesting savory herbal and oak notes. In a strange way, the aromas remind me a bit of an Australian Shiraz. Personally, I don't think it has the depth of flavor to stand up to the structure, and I would prefer a little more complexity (perhaps that will come with more bottle age?). Definitely no rush to drink this one; I would advise waiting a good many more years before pulling the cork (these tasting notes were taken ~2 hours after decanting), but I'm not convinced that this wine will have enough complexity to make it worth the wait. At this point, it definitely needs some rich, fatty foods to pair with.

Had this at a restaurant. Arranged with the restaurant in advance to have it decanted about 90 minutes before dinner. Nicely balanced and approaching its drinking window. Notes of blackberry, currant, smoke, herbs, and hints of brine & leather. Full bodied with firm sinewy tannins, juicy acidity and long length on the finish.
