We popped this to go with a rich "Cinghiale in Dolceforte" (Tuscan wild boar stew with chocolate.) Seems it would have been an awesome match, except we were still working on the appetizer bottle (a really old Chianti) through dinner. Since we didn't get to this Sagrantino until after dinner, the tannins were quite apparent in their contrast. Even so, some deep dark berry fruit is emerging, and it's an enjoyable bottle. Next time, though, I'll make it a point to better synchronize it with some rich braise ...

Just into its drinking window, perhaps. You wouldn't want to drink this by itself, but it was a fitting accompaniment to a rich steak, after a 4-hour decant. Assertive and lingering tannins surround black cherry and blackcurrant, with a bit of black raspberry at the end, adorned with leather and tobacco, and generous acidity, and some interesting-but-hard-to-define herbal flavors. If I had another bottle, I'd wait two years before opening it.

tannic bomb... but really nice dark fruit & spice that stands up well... I should've order double meat and double mushroom on my pizza to be better balance ... fun

Very dark color. Blackberry with vanilla nose. Complex, but very tannic and oaky. So much potential, but would be best consumed 5 or more years from now.
