  • 100% Mantonico, aged on the lees. Clear lemon, medium intensity. The nose has a little petrol and wax. There is little, if any oak. The palate is dry, with medium alcohol at 12.5%. The acidity is medium (+). The polyphenols are moderately smooth, and the minerality is medium (+) to pronounced. This is a light to medium (-) bodied wine. It is nicely balanced and does not appear to come from a warmer climate like Calabria. It could be mistaken for an un-oaked Chardonnay, although it is quite savory, perhaps due to the sea-driven salinity. An interesting wine to throw off your wine geeks friends in a blind tasting, but not a particularly great value at $26.00. Drink 2012-2014.

  • I have never tasted Mantonico before, I would guess, that this one is Chardonnay. Quite rich nose, creamy palate. Could be better when younger and fresher, but overall nice white wine more on the saline side of the taste spectrum than fruity.
