  • Second Sunday Group: 1990 Burgundies (Neil's): Double blind. Ruby red core with a light meniscus. Aromas of caramel and sous bois with sour black cherry overtones. Light body. Sour cherry and red fruit flavors with soft tannin and good acidity. Shows more dark pinot fruit than red as it breathes in the glass but also shows a subtle bouillon note that I find distracting. 87-88 pts.

  • Delicious and definitely still in drinking window. Pretty much fully bricked. Rotting leaves and vestiges of strawberries on the nose. Still a touch of tannin, but this is well-balanced by juicy acidity. Very moreish. Extremely long finish with savoury /gamey flavours and some chocolate.

  • Classic Corton just knocking on the door of what should be a long drinking window. This is a big wine absolutely packed with rich crimson fruit and a robust structure. It's expansive in scale with plenty of youthful flesh, but the fruit has a more aged, crimson complexion and an enticing tinge of gaminess putting it slightly on the more wild, animal side of Corton as opposed to the mineral, though there is some stony austerity too. There no sense of the excess ripeness that affects some 1990s, but this is still one huge wine.

  • Sampled 3/3/11. Upon first being opened, there was a little concern the wine might be corked. It wasn't and after about 30 minutes the funk blew off. An interesting Burg with classic slightly sour black cherries but also wine some interesting herb and vanilla notes that gave the wine a different mouthfeel than many older burgs. The wine never degraded after 2 hours. Certainly different.

  • Prior notes repeated. Took the nod among the group tonight over the 1990 Leroy Corton Renards, although all agreed the Renards needs more time, and not just a few years.
