The 1949 Léoville Barton is a dream - overripe raspberry, cedar, mint, sandalwood, squab, slightly malty - huge aromatic volume. Unusually for Léoville Barton, this resembles the Mouton of the same vintage. While this is cerebral, I can’t underscore enough that this is also totally delicious, a mix of creamy red fruits, allspice, and exotic wood in the mouth finishing with a loamy, pencilly presence.

Leoville Barton vertical 1863 - 2005 (Institute of Directors, London): What a gorgeous sweet nose, so inviting, mellow fruit, fresh, a citrus tone, even some grip - very very lovely
