Method: Glasvin Champagne glass; pop and pour and revisited over the next couple of hours
Look: medium straw; many steady bubbles
Nose: buttered brioche, yellow apple, raw pie crust
Palate: yellow apple, toast crust, a bit of cream as it opens/warms; lemon pith; long- finish of chalk; dry; medium- body; very fine medium- strength bubbles; medium acidity that is very nicely integrated
Overall thoughts: While this lacked a bit of "oomph" is was elegant and very well balanced. While I prefer more richness, concentration, body, etc., it was great to experience such a harmonious wine. 90 to 91 points. Great wine!

Wow, this bottle is still firing on an cylinders. The 1999 Roederer BdB is wonderfully mature now and has a powerful nose that reminds me of white flowers and toffee. The palate is also wide open and has gained significant depth in the last several years with flavors of nuts, spicy citrus, cream, vanilla, honey, caramel, wild flowers, dark minerals, pastries, dough, and red apples. Overall this champagne also has rich flavors, but is very delicate at the same time. In fact, the quality of this champagne approaches the 1999 Cristal. I am very sad to have consumed my last bottle of this wonderful champagne.

I decided to check in on a nice aged bottle of 1999 Louis Roederer BdB and was extremely impressed by this one. As a bit of background, the Louis Roederer BdB is made from the same chardonnay grapes that go into Cristal. So in a way, it is like a Cristal BdB without the name and with a price tag of $60 to $70 rather than $200.
This bottle was a perfect example of what bottle age can do for a good Blanc de Blancs, especially from Louis Roederer. The nose showed characteristics of white flowers, while the palate was wide open with a wonderful elegant richness. The flavors that were most prominent included honey, nuts, spicy citrus, cream, wild flowers, sappy red and green apples, cookie dough, and bright minerals.
This bottle has really showed me the benefits of getting several years of bottle age on Louis Roederer vintage champagne's. Unfortunately I only have one bottle left. I will probably save that bottle a little while longer and drink it side by side with the new 2006 Louis Roederer BdB in order to get a more direct comparison of the same champagne at different points.

Opened and drank half the bottle, recorked and let sit for a week in the cellar. Just as good the second time around. Classy bread dough and yeast, mild and integrated citrus balanced by tones of smoky minerals and a dollop of butterscotch - all in the right proportions. Excellent juice.

Quick Sparkler Sips, Day 1: This was quite easily the champagne of the tasting. Great flavors. This wine was elegant, which I expect from a bdb, but complex as well. Great body, with a super long amazing finish. This scored major points on the yummyilicious factor. 92-94
