  • Dark, moderately translucent ruby red color with a hint of developed maroon hue. The nose is somewhat dusty and closed with aromas of smoke, earthy sous-bois, a little bit of tobacco and a little bit of ripe red fruit. With air the nose gains a noticeable streak of tar. The wine is dry, developed and complex on the palate with medium-to-moderately full body and quite tertiary flavors of ripe red berries, savory smoke, some sous-bois, a little bit of damp leaves, light roasted spice tones and a hint of sour cherry bitterness. The structure relies mostly on the acidity, because even though the powdery tannins feel ample, they are fully resolved and contribute mainly to the texture, not to the structure. The finish is spicy, pretty acid-driven and slightly grippy with long flavors of sour cherries, some ripe dark berries, a little bit of smoke, light earthy tones and a hint of pipe tobacco.

A nice, nuanced and fully developed Barbaresco at its peak. It feels like this was never a big or impressive wine and it is now going on extended age - there are still some fruit flavors left, but overall the wine is starting to lose depth and intensity, turning more and more tertiary with age. Offers quite a bit of enjoyment, but doesn't reach the level of the best wines of the region. However, at only 30€ your really don't expect it to. Pretty nice little drop.
