Decent for price point. Would rebuy. Had a nice vintage color, and pleasant on the nose. Young taste. Needed to breathe much much longer. 30min minimum.

To my palate, this is no where near a 91 point wine. It is a hell of a buy at around $10. We decanted and waited about 30 minutes to drink. Even then, the acid was close to overpowering and needed more open time. The extra time rewarded our patience with still a highly acidic wine that started to show some real fruitiness. As is the case with most Italian wines, about half the flavor characteristics are non fruit. We found cocoa, licorice, graphite, vanilla and cola. The emerging fruit is very black cherry orientated. There is some blackberry and black currant and even some ripe plum. Lots of gritty, youngish tannins which will only enhance some more bottle age. The finish is almost too dry, as the wine is still too young, showing cocoa powder and graphite.

This wine upon opening presents flavors and aromas of mixed dark fruits (principally blackberry and blackcurrant) along with loads of rich sweet dark tobacco. The tannins are also rich, sweet, and fine, generous without being in the least overbearing. It is full of bass notes. The finish is long and lingering, slightly drying, and a bit perfumy.
Overall, this is a definite rebuy at $13; it drinks like a much more expensive wine. Great choice for a cellar defender and a good change of pace from Riojas and RbDs. It's a Johnny Cash of a wine; not flashy or complex, but what it does, it does masterfully well.
