Obviously, the other Svenne Bananisars here had an amazing encounter with this wine. To us, it showed as a gritty, overextracted, non-oaked, yawn-wine. Good faith gives: our btl was in the proverbial tunnel. How we wish to have either been with the Swedes a few years back, or found this btl in a forgotten corner of the wine room some 15 years from now…

Slow-ox'd for 7 hrs bf taking it to Pecorella (Yokohama).

Enormous nose of dark berries, Nebbiolo and dry Northern forrest.
Sa-tannic with a truckload of nips. The dominating primary (!) fruit of Nebbiolo berries is accompanied by a bashful serving of tertiary aromas towards mature, ta-daah, Barolo. However, no violets today.

The gritty overextraction doesn't really do it for us this time. The acidity is playing its own ball game and the construct becomes shakey. Or, at least, not earthquake safe…

I'm certain that in a blinded arrangement, many ppl would have difficulties placing this as a Piedmontesian Nebbiolo on the one hand and over 5 years of age on the other…

    Happy to have enjoyed.
Happy to not have invested in a full case.

  • Tannins still fairly dusty. Nice red fruit and moderately long finish. Should have waited a decade

Riktigt bra balans nästan lite i Gajas stil.

  • My blind guess was Gaja and Barbaresco.
    It was not.
Nose is quite oak dominated, but showing very fine wood.
Toasty oak, oak spices, coffee, cedar, herbs, tar with a touch of fine stable, leather and lovely mushrooms and truffles.
Deep and complex, with clear signs of first maturity and expensive oak.
Palate shows high acidity, with tart red berries mixed with fat cherries, fine gritty tannins, spices.
    A long finish.
This is the finest La Spinetta wine I have had.
A really good effort from a producer I normally are not all that impressed about.
This however was a really fine bottle.
In a sweet spot right now.
Ended up as wine of the night in tonight’s blind tasting, after first round of votes.
