[0.8] Indie w/ Peter pre-MW exam (Indie Wine Bar): (blind) Med minus ruby, garnet rim. Slightly reductive ripe red cherry fruit. Very slight impression of confected fruit (carbonic or whole cluster). Slight oak, 14% (in hindsight, I was probably off - it's around 13%) alcohol, elevated (medium plus) acid, med minus tannins.
Lateral group: thin-skinned, high alcohol, low tannins. - Pinot - Grenache - would be lower acid, probably more oxidative, fruit character more strawberry vs. cherry.
Stood up for 1 month. Decanted off fine sediment. Now 2h after decant. Aromas of baking spices, bark, some brown and green stems, and black cherries. Palate w black and red cherries, minerals, bark, spices, some brown leaves and just a bit of stems. Med-full body w nice acids.. Mild-med tannins. Nice acids Nice lifted, finish of black cherries, pomegranate, baking spices, bark and green and brown stems. Beginning to take on some aged characteristics. Definitely more evolution to come and has the structure for another 5-10 yrs. Nice balance - moderately rich but nicely balanced by the acids. This is good. Like this quite a bit. 92+

Opened a 2011 Ama and Scallop Shelf. Disappointing first several hours re finish (bitter) and not very pinot like. Saved for second night and much more enjoyable in every respect. Not sure if it's a reflection of 2011 challenges.....? Gotta let them breath though!

Guess: Sonoma Pinot 2018, good quality. RRV. Riper style.
Actual: 2011 Peay "Ama" Sonoma Coast Estate pinot.
missed: overestimated alcohol, missed signs of age.
Wow. older than I expected! This is in a great place.

I gave this a couple of hours in decanter - it will blossom with solid fruit, spice, aromatics.
