Decanted and consumed over about 3 hours. The wine was a deep garnet red color to the core with only faint wateriness at the meniscus, this despite very heavy sediment coating the bottle. The nose soared from the moment it was open until about 2.5 hours into the evening with an intense, almost searing at times, nose of blood, iron, garrique, red fruit, clay, Mediterranean herbs, and some gaminess. The palate impression was one of the most graceful, balanced, and complex I've ever had from a Rhone wine of any kind and showed the magic that a well-stored, well-aged CdP can achieve. The tannins were virtually gone but present enough to add contrast to the ample fruit and acidity. The finish lasted at least 30 seconds. This was an absolutely stunning example of mature CdP. Purchased on release and stored in my cellar since.

What an interesting CdP experience. Had no trouble with the cork, which was very intact. Heavy sediment.
In the glass was brick a color as I can ever recall (even from older wines). Had a smokey/peaty flavor reminiscent of scotch but with the delicacy of a wine. Acidity was on the higher end. The fruit has been subjugated to the more subtle ends of taste. Not a wine for those who aren’t looking for an adventure, but enjoyable.
