This is a resolutely modern wine, meaning that oak is prominent and fruit is upfront. Once you accept that, it is actually rather good and juicy. The alcohol is not obtrusive, and the acidity is well judged. Not a refined or overly serious wine, but a useful one nevertheless, provided that you adjust your expectations accordingly. It managed to get through the chips that accompanied our steak.

Freshly acidic and mineral-laden, this opaque crimson blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah is a cut above most Côtes du Rhône offerings. Dark bramble fruits, anise, jasmine and earth support the iron-infused aromas and flavors of this medium-bodied wine. The supple tannins are medium in weight and there is no alcoholic heat (despite being listed as 14.5%). The flavors stay solid in the middle and the oak lurks nicely in the background. Closing with medium length, this is a solid wine which, while pricey for its pedigree, is worth the extra coin. Drink now-2022.
