  • So.... This is my final bottle and it's the wine I hoped it would be. Clear but almost opaque deep ruby (almost black) core of moderate intensity out to a dark red rim - mature but not old. Clean, complex and warm nose that's constantly changing - plum, smoke, tobacco, asphalt, dried cherries, blackcurrent, tomato leaf, some funk, bloody meat, spice, salami - it goes on and on with each swirl revealing more. No Pepper though, more nutmeg - interesting... Dry wine with dried fruit flavours (cherry, plum, date), some coffee, chocolate and moderate acid, full body, alcohol and (very soft) tannin. The finish is long with sweet dried fruit, smoke, some heat from the residual alcohol and spice. This is a delicious, tasty wine that is at its peak in 2008.

  • Clear but dull dark plum core with little intensity. Clean but muddy nose of stewed fruit and smoke of moderate intensity. Dry with a touch of fruit sweetness but flabby and dull on the palate - some smoke, plum, sausage but mod- acidity went along with it's mod body, tannin (very soft) and alcohol. Moderate finish that fell flat. Very slightly corked as well. This wine was well balanced in its youth but I left it too long before drinking. Made in the modern style and it didn't evolve at all. My fault for leaving it too long - not the wine or winemakers problem.
