Northern Rhone theme dinner at Min Jiang Goodwood. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl 1855. Appearance light sediment, medium intensity, ruby colour with thin garnet rim. Legs. Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of emerging leather, earth, light pepper, shy hiding fruit. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of leather, earth, slight black olives, shy hiding dark fruits. Medium+ finish. Good quality. Feels tight fisted at the moment, or might be on a downhill?

Drank over two days and much improved on day 2 with greater balanced and softer tannins. Red fruit with light smoked bacon and mineral notes. Light to medium weight on the palate, focused leading to decent length. Lots of complexity on the finish. Very good now but better in 3 to 5 years.

Nice medium deep, dark red fruit, more mellow and elegant than 2005 tasted alongside, bit softer, not as deep or rich, still youthful but more approachable, touch of complexity, some light chalky tannins. Still, very tasty.

Same bottle as Derek. Very smooth and silky. Resolved tannins. Good length. Very nice and drink now.

Northern Rhones at Min Jiang: Quite international in style. Guessed ‘03 Côte-Rôtie because it lacked acid. Soft but sweet blue fruit, quite anonymous.
