  • My Birthday Burgs 2016 Session 1 (Kallang Way Extra Space): Poured into decanter and aired for 2 hours before drinking.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of floral violets, red cherries, red plum, sweet baking spices. Youthful.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of red cherries, red plum licorice, sweet baking spices. Only with a lot more air did earth and chocolate start to emerge. Medium finish.
Good quality. On one hand, this is tightly wound-up at the moment, but on the other, it doesn't seem to have the stuffing to be a very long-ager. Probably destined to be a delicate elegant Clos Vougeot, rather than a muscular meaty one. Worth a try again in 3-4 years' time.

  • Very tight and tense yet supremely enjoyable. A nose of smoked meat, raspberry, flowers, and a slight strawberry. The palate has great breadth and concentration yet delicate and ethereal while still feeling tightly wound. That said, there is a beautiful cool fruit of cherry and pomegranate but smoke, meat and crushed rocks dominate right now. Actually pretty good right out of the bottle but continuously develops and demands some time in the cellar.
