  • color turning a little rusty; past its prime, but still pretty good; if I had another bottle, I'd drink it now.

  • Served from magnum at our annual Christmas Eve Boeuf Bourguignon dinner. Ten-year-old Turley Zin? Yes, please. Always a hit around the table, even among those who normally turn up their noses to any wine. Still has a bright ruby color with dazzling kirchenfenster (thanks, Hannah!). A bit muted in the nose with some ripe blackberries, but comes alive on the palate with raspberries, blackberries and blueberries and transitions to apricots and cedar in the finish. (Provided a textbook example for our wine novices of how a wine transitions between front, mid and back palates.) A delicious, aged Zin that should be consumed now, especially if in a 750 ml bottle.

  • Drank way past its drinking window. Stored perfectly since release. Bought directly from the winery. Needed a chill to cool off the alcohol heat that was still there. Still very drinkable but not for guests unless you serve it as a desert wine. Big fruit still also there. Amazing how much great Turley wine is just sitting in cellars (including mine) that need to be loved.

  • Served at Easter dinner with hickory-grilled tri-tip. Ten-year-old Juvenile from magnum signed by Larry Turley. Still drinking very well. Typical Turley power only somewhat muted by time. Dark purple with no browning at the disk, leggy with a smokey blackberry nuance in the nose. Blackberries, herbs and brush on the palate with a blast of cherry in the finish. The wax-capped magnum was a hit at the table, and even our cosmo- and martini-preferring guests tipped back more than one glass of this gem.
