  • Burgundy color with no signs of age. Somewhat acidic on first opening, but then becoming balanced, and with a discernable bouquet and flavor of red fruit, including raspberry and cherry, albeit not with much oomph. To its credit, it also lacked the unpleasant barbecue and bouillon notes of so many red Burgundies, at least until it had been aired for a long time. So this wine is now the best Burgundy that I have drunk in many years. This is indeed sad. I am beginning to feel that the meagerness and stinginess of these wines is not just a consequence of their vinification, but lack of ripeness in the grapes.

  • corked. I have had a huge number of Laurent Grand Crus that have been either corked or if they are not corked, no where near the potential and beauty of grand crus from other wine makers. This bottle is yet another in a string of expensive disappointments that affirm why people give up on red burgundy. i'm not quite ready to throw in the towel, but I am def ready to never buy a Dominique Laurent again...
