A bit of a bruiser, touch oxidative, medium golden color. Dense fruit. Lacking some necessary energy and excitement. But held up well with early Thanksgiving bites.
Not what I expected from the label, darker gold color, tiny bubbles; sour grain and grape leaves on the nose; a dark fruitiness, like a tokaji though dry, creamy, almost malty, quince and brown pear, tart nectarine and cream in the lingering finish.
Melds well with creamy cheese and even a full cheese course.

Tasting new Champagnes from Raphaël & Vincent Bérêche (Epernay): Nose with red and yellow apples, some spice, a hint of honey and some development. Palate with powerful concentration, yellow and red apple, hints of winter apples, some peach, high acidity, and an aftertaste with some green apples. Rather fully developed, 91 p. 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay from Aÿ (grand cru) in Grande Vallée de la Marne. Disgorged in December 2013, dosage 2 g/l. 1680 bottles in this vintage.

10/18/2014 - Seth Rosenberg Does not like this wine:
Fete de Champagne Grand Tasting (Astor Center, NYC.): Mature and advanced: caramel, malt, nuts - ox? Not great on the palate - soft, missing a step. Nutty and ox and a little sherry.
