Such a satin Zinfandel. Great acidity, no noticeable oak. Refreshing, flavorful but not heavy/dense/pillowy. Has a barbera-like quality that is great. Wants food!

Very nice Zin. Bold but smooth, fruit-forward, round w/ plenty of Zin earth and spice. Cherry, fig, smoke and some bright acidity, yet staying subtle and clean.

Rooting around for something meaty to accompany something meaty. Have really only tasted the Porter Creek wines at the source, which, under the challenging circumstances of their tiny room, can leave uncertain memories.
Still pretty youthful (not in my nature to drink a wine young), purplish red color, some brambly notes on the nose; this is fairly straightforward, medium weight, blackberries and other dark berry fruit, medium acid, smooth and approachable.

Why can't all Sonoma zin be like this this! I know they blend some carignan in, but that's a genius idea. The carignan seems to lend it some acidity and meaty mid-palate. The oak is in check, and this wine is like a hug, but not a pillow in your mouth. Meaty, peppery, plum, blackberry, but nothing stewed or vanilla. Get it good.

Sonoma/Mendocino Vacation; 2/8/2015-2/11/2015 (Russian River Valley, Anderson Valley): Delicious. 5% carignan or so, which, I think, brightens things up and may add a bit of acidity. Spicy earthy, yet with brightness. Typical brambly berries, richness, and warmth. I'd love to be drinking a bottle right now in this cold Chicago weather.
