A gift. Probably past its prime. Black cherry, black tea, raspberry. Medium body and a shorter finish. a nice wine, but not what I expect for a Pinotage wine.

I didn't recognise the variety (anyway, I am lousy blind taster) but when knowing it, this had for sure strawberries and this peculiar peppery greenness of pinotage. Sweetish, intense, well-balanced. Very good.

Pop and pour. Ruby red all the way to the rim. Light on the nose. Fruit is light on the palette with just a hint of alcohol. No noticable wood or oak. Smooth finish. Will be interesting to see how other bottles develop with more age.

Nose: Black cherry, cola, roasted raspberry, with some roasted meats
Palate: black cherry, a strong flavor of tea, a sort of brambly raspberry I would associate with Zinfandel Pinotage is, of course, traditionally associated with South Africa but there are a few dozen acres of it in the US and J Vineyards has some of those. I would best describe this as a Pinot du Rhone.
