Community Tasting Notes (13) Avg Score: 89.1 points

  • Consistent notes. Ultimately not bad. The Pinot is definitely prevalent on the nose, as the cola is front and center. Much of the wood has blown off. Behind the cola was some darker fruit or black licorice. On the palate, all I could taste initially was black licorice and blackberry. After a while, this settled down. The most difficult time I've had with these Pinotages is that they are quite burly initially. I've enjoyed the flavor profiles, though. This is not overly jammy and is framed by nice tannins that have softened. I've scored this consistently in the 86-88 range that is probably about right.

  • I like pinotage -- its bite but still fruitiness. We decanted for more than an hour, and it really smoothed out. Add it to a dinner that needs a little extra kick. We had it with meatloaf and mashed potatoes, so it added a nice punch to the palatte.

    This is ready to drink.

Overall, delicious! But, I love pinotage, and I love J. Decant, for sure, to smooth it out. Nevertheless, there is a touch of smokiness and sourness. So, this may not be to a mass public preferred taste.

  • As suggested by other reviewers, this wine is quite different and the first taste or two were quite 'different'. However, once the palate adjusted and the wine opened up, this turned into a very nice drink.

  • Pinotage works for me in general, and this is the best I've tasted outside of the Western Cape. Black & blue fruit along with the tar and smoke. Nice herbal notes from bay and sage round it out.
