Blind Tasting - 5-10 years aged Pinot Nor (St Johns, Auckland): Dark ruby/garnet, dense, sweet herbal, earth and savoury notes. No doubt, this untypical and unique style must be Mountford! Amazing on its concentration and complexity. This wine expands boundary of NZ PN. I recognised my wine and rated it #2, however #1 by group.
Ap 5/5, Ar 13/15, Palate 18/20, Overall 4+4/10 Total 94/100

dense, herbals. very impressive PN. high alcohol is well wrapped in mellowed texture. just a little hot in finish. showing wonderful strenth, complexity and concentration, with its own style.

m+ red, not very clear, kind of unfiltered, unrefined methodology. intense herbal, dark berries, dark floral, some earth, forest floor. fully bodied, composed weight with 15.5% alc, well balanced by rich flavours. long finish with savoury notes and some nice perfumes.
Alc 15.5%, TA 4.6 g/l, 20 months in French oak (50% new). JR 16.5, MC 5 stars, JC Lee 85.
"A bit nervier than the Liaison with some cough-sweet notes, Some tannins and a little bit of heat. Maybe just a tad too sweet and alcoholic for perfection. ", JR's comment is exactly right when tasting this wine alongside Liaison. However, it's still stylish, lush and great, in sort of unusual way.
