Surprised this held up so well, but drink them if you have them -- I'm noting I should finish off my '05 as well. Still good fruit, a reasonable tannic base, and it's as married as it's ever going to be. It probably has declined some from peak, but still quite drinkable. My cellar is cool (45-60 degrees), so that likely helped.

Pop/pour. This has seen better days. The fruit seems faded both in absolute terms and as compared to my note from several years ago. A sense of high alcohol dominates, with a slightly bitter finish. This one stored in an ambient cellar between 65 -70 degrees, so perhaps other bottles more carefully stored might fair better, but the synthetic cork suggests to me that this wasn't intended to be aged this long. This had been a "missing and presumed lost" bottle in my cellar.

Very appealing nose with white truffle undertones, never detected this in a wine before. Still great, fruit driven wine, very round with a moderate, silky finish. Went great with smoked ribs.

The last bottle of what was a bunch way back when. This one has the older label, as 2004 had some bottles with the gray label after switching from the pinkish label they used previously.
Anyway, to the wine. This still tastes very nice, but with age the fruit isn't quite as vibrant. Probably one of the oldest zins I've had. Nose showing plums, some vanilla, spice notes, black pepper. Really nice in the mouth. Smooth, silky. Still some tannins in the middle. Nice vanilla notes up front and through the middle, with a nice hit of fruit from mid palate through a medium-long finish.
