A blend of Antão Vaz, Arinto, Sémillon and Roupeiro. Short pre-fermentation skin contact. Fermented and aged for 6 months in a combination of stainless steel and new French and American oak barrels. Bottled in March 2014. 14% alcohol, 2,1 g/l residual sugar, 7,0 g/l acidity. pH 3,2.
Slightly developed, medium-deep lemon yellow color. Somewhat developed, waxy and quite attractive nose with fine-tuned aromas of slightly wizened stone fruits, creaminess, some banana, a little bit of pineapple, light notes of zabaglione, a sappy hint of herbal greenness and a toasty touch of smoke. The wine is moderately full-bodied on the palate with flavors of creaminess, some tropical fruit flavors of pineapple, papaya and a little bit of passion fruit, light notes of sweet oak spice, a hint of white peach and a touch of woody bitterness. The bright, high acidity lends good sense of structure and pleasant freshness to the wine. The finish is long, lively and quite complex with nuanced flavors of creamy richness, white peach, some nutty tones of slivered almonds, a little bit of vanilla, a hint of wizened stone fruits and a touch of toasty oak spice.
A stylish, complex and balanced vintage of white Esporão Reserva that is starting to exhibit some developed characteristics, but is yet to feel tertiary. The wine is definitely going into the right direction and becoming quite attractive already, but there is still room for further development. I can imagine within some years the oak will integrate even better with that ripe yet still well-proportioned fruit while the high acidity will retain good sense of freshness. Probably will start peaking around 10 years of age. Fine, promising stuff.

Herbs, fresh tropical fruit, dry mouthfeel at first but gains more sweetness in the glass.
