I’m a fan but this is more in a super tuscan, cali cab profile. Oak is dominant on opening, however, well made, balanced, big black fruit and doesn't exude its 14.5 ABV. The notes of smoke and iron, meat, are its saving grace in identifying it is Italian Barbaresco. Well integrated tannins and good acidity. Excellent wine. Just not in my wheel house.

Nose of cherries, earth, musk, sweet red fruit, some menthol (14.5% ABV), vanilla. Unstructured medium legs. Translucent center to a rust colored rim. Palate expresses the nose with sweet tannins and mild acidity to a spice filled lingering finish. Will have more tomorrow when we drink the second half and will reserve score until then. Tonight the score would be 91+.

The most backward wine of the line-up. Dark cherry profile, sap, earth and a hint of tar. Very long and tannic still. Taste of un-integrated bitter oak in the finish. Still very coiled, only hinting at its potential. Promising, would hold for quite a while though.

An initial whiff of vanilla quickly blows off in the glass to reveal rich, ripe cherry, sweet floral rose and hints of undergrowth. On the palate, it is intense and structured, yet finessed with focused red fruits and inner floral notes. The palate-coating finish shows youthful tannin yet still provides much enjoyment as lingering fruit slowly fades from this ripe and feminine Barbaresco.

Great Wines of Italy with James Suckling (Moore Building, Miami, FL): This is classical ethereal stuff. Delicate bouquet of flowers, herbs, and spices followed by mild cherries and meat sauce. Bravo!
