An even better bottle this year. No brett whatsoever. Just clean, layered syrah, starting with bright red fruit before transitioning to a deep, dense, lush core with earth and meat and herbs and then finishing long on both acidity and still not fully integrated tannin. Killer.

Opaque purple to the rim. A: black olive, smoked meat, blackberry sauce, white pepper, graphite. F: broad and generous black fruits, earthy herbs and general savory vibes, kick of brighter red fruit and a wave of refreshing acid.
Quite a ride. This is a really nice blend of Cali and N Rhône Syrah characteristics. Darker fruit but still very savory and balanced. This reminds me a lot of the Copain Gary’s that I had a few weeks ago. Qupe’s entry level is always about the best value in domestic Syrah, but this is my first time having one of the single vineyards with a few years of age on it. Seems to nail the potential of the area. Kudos Bob!
Oct 2018 Update: this is even more brooding and meaty, almost a cured meat of sorts, and the palate is raw and metallic and feral. Quite wonderful. Bumped up a point since last one.

Slight brettiness, blew off within an hour. Black fruit, olives, savory notes, dark character, finishes long... brooding, moody, excellent.

Improved from last year, really hitting it's stride. Luscious syrah, minimal decant needed, long finish
