Really impressed by this wine with 20 years of age. The color is not yet completely garnet, and not so light even if it doesn't include colorino, merlot or CS. Nose which is all about balsamic smell, leather and earthy. A complex and intense taste, with some still grippy tannins, not smoothed by age and a lively acidity is preceding a long finish.

Nicely aged Chianti. Still has some youthful gloss, but it's packing an aromatic punch of earthiness and leather, and the fruit has definitely gone in that direction as well. But it still has a lot of fullness and fat. And it's easy to drink since the tannins have been mostly smoothed away. I probably should have bought more of these and fewer of the Percarlos, which are either shut down or dried out by the oak at this age.

Ok. Needed decanting. After 1 hour the tannins were integrated. Quite strong, average smell. Not a pleaser but a typical classico. could easily age some more years. I still prefer the 2009 classico.

Primarily Sangiovese. Aged for 1.5 years in French oak. Much of the 30.5 acres owned by this estate are old vines between 35-40 years in age and on steep hillside sites. I found this for a very good price of $9 recently. This was holding up very well. The wine has a reputation of being able to age. Showing dusty red fruit and a rather elegant side presently. Austere finish but with plenty of charm and character. Notes of violets, currants, minerals and dried mushrooms. 90 points.

Still a perfectly good wine to have with a plate of pasta and tomato sauce, but there wasn't any upside to aging this so long.
