  • Tasted alongside Mariotto Derthona 2010.

Medium-deep yellow, much deeper than the color of 2010. The nose feels slightly evolved with rich and waxy aromas of honeydew melon, some yellow apple, a little bit of sweet greengage, a hint of pineapple and a touch of acacia honey. The wine is oily, full-bodied and round on the palate, yet also very bright and focused, thanks to the relatively high acidity. There are slightly waxy flavors of ripe yellow apple, some pear, a little bit of overripe peach, a hint of greengage, light nuances of hay and almonds and a touch of honeyed sweetness. There is also a bright and slightly bitter streak of stony minerality. Overall the wine feels quite firm, but also more voluminous and more developed than 2010 with a bit lower acidity. The finish is long, rich and vibrant with ripe flavors of yellow apples, some hay, a little bit of sweet peach, a hint of pear, light mineral notes of wet stones and a touch of sweet tangerine.

You can taste that this is practically the same wine as the vintage 2010, but the difference is still remarkable; whereas Derthona 2010 was remarkably youthful, almost backward, this vintage is more consistent in its maturity, showing some developed characteristics you'd expect from a wine that is 8 years old. There's a lot of weight, power and richness, but the wine carries itself very impressively, thanks to its high acidity and pronounced minerality. A beautiful big white wine, showcasing nicely the aging potential of Timorasso. Great value at 15€.
