JG’s mainly Barolo 2018s (Terra Rossa, London N1): Almost intoxicating smoke and yellow fruits on the nose that carry over on to the palate. Substantial concentration and scale yet I find that I would prefer more fresh acidity and perhaps the higher abv (13.5%) shows a little. Still, a nice wine that grew on me.

Dinner at Pompette (Chicago, IL): I always feel like that I should like Timorasso more than I actually do. This had an intense, phenolic note that I couldn't get past, especially with a slight bitterness on the finish, but otherwise I did like the riper, rounded fruit and moderate oily texture.

"Under the radar" Piedmont (Terra Rossa): Lots of alluring yellow fruit on the nose - particularly pineapple showing with air - and some grassiness. Reminded me of Riesling. Deep on the palate, gentle and rounded, with a kick of bitterness to keep things in balance. Good wine, but I didn't find it as exciting as the 2016 I tried last year.

Citrus and mineral as well as petroleum in the nose, mineral in the mouth, long warm finish very high intensity.
