Magnum OWC, out of 3333 magnums made. Dark horse of the evening, candied red and blue fruit, lacy cherry, spice, smoke, earthy, hay, grassy, chocolate, ripe but austere at the same time, much similar to early 90s (but not 80s) Ponsot. Showing wonderfully for the vintage. 93-94

This was served blind out of magnum. If I had known this was a 2003 I am sure I would have hated it, but under the circumstances this was actually quite good. Toward the ripe side but it did not come across as over-ripe. While 2003 is a vintage I tend to avoid like the plague I find certain Burgundies have actually aged well and the good ones will continue to improve with time. In general I am a lot more optimistic about some of the red burgs than most of the bordeaux from 2003.

Lovely, elegant but with richness and concentration without being heavy; silky smooth tannins, juicy red fruits with delicate spices; really nice. Preferred over the '97 Ponsot and the '03 DRC Richbourg. Zachy's Burg Wine Dinner at AOC.

From magnum, a very strong showing. Candied fruit, haunting nose. Still all primary but very enjoyable, 93-94 tonight
