{screwcap, 13%} Slightly murky garnet red. Marginally developed but rather woody and edgy smelling nose. Can a nose be woody but not oaky? Well, that’s it. Even the palate I wouldn’t call green, but it has a tart drying character. Tannins are low/medium, dusty in character, but fruit seems to fade on the palate the longer the wine sits in the glass. Label says 18 months in French oak, 20% new. Huh. Medium weight palate, with some black-tinged cherry flavours, but very patchy on the tongue, with a just-medium length finish. Probably past best as far as interest goes, but it’s not about to fall over soon.

Light fruit nose, fragrant, subtle, floral. Early fruit with a bright side. Late mineral and alcohol that lingers. Not a great experience. Dry and a bit off putting. Beaujalois like.
PostScript, the next day the wine seem to have oxidizeat an extremely rapid rate, wonder if there was a flaw with it, but I will let the tasting notes from the blind tasting the night before stand at this point.

Pinotpalooza (Carriageworks, Redfern): Medium minus intensity aromas of red cherry and berry, quite perfumed top notes and sweet spice…Fine tannic grip that is a little drying, over cherry fruit. Hmm

New Zealand London Annual Trade Tasting (Lindley Hall, Royal Horticultural Halls): The nose is more dense than Leah, the fruit is more ripe, the dried herb element is still there and its more apparent, the oak more upfront but not overpowering, needs time in the glass to open up. There are also some darker notes. In the palate the wine is round with nice red fruit, balancing acidity, nice oak frame, going a bit higher in price here and it shows, med finish. Outstanding quality, drink or hold 90+
