Screw cap. Red fruit, sour cherry, boysenberry, some plum, light vanilla, a hint of smoke, light earthiness, light minerality, ginger, and spice, with medium-plus but slightly artificial acidity, partly resolved tannin, and very good length. The acidity was disharmonious (acidified?). The juicy, medium-bodied wine benefited from aeration, but overall remained somewhat artificial and was less harmonious than I had liked it to be.

Plummy colour. Nose shows autumn hedgerow, leather, earthiness and good depth. Plums on the palate and finish, sour cherries, stewed plums. Spice, nutmeg, ginger. Complex. At its peak now, maybe just beyond. So drink up. Good to taste this wine twice over 3 years, it's quite different, but still very good.

Tasted at the Whitewater Valley Wine Society, Hampshire, UK. This is produced from the oldest vines on an outpost vineyard. This wine had a bright ruby colour and a nose full of plum, cherry and anise aromas. On the palate it was initially light, but then there was more structure and weight of soft and sweet fruit followed by hints of chocolate and spice. This wine was a most pleasant way to end the tasting and it was interesting to learn that it is served to First Class Passenger on BA flights!

Pinotpalooza (Carriageworks, Redfern): rich, stalks, new oak, ripe fruit…not what I look for but this is really good and coarse carries crisp cherry and berry fruit with front of mouth tannic grip. Nice
