Rheingau - visiting Leitz & Breuer (Rudesheim): {cork, 8%, €25, AP 50 14} Nose of flowers & custard. Slightler older than the other wines tasted today, but it wasn’t screamingly obvious. Not heavy on the palate, but not screeching with acid either. Rather, an exquisitely-balanced example of an off-dry Riesling, with medium acidity offsetting the sweetness (~85g/l RS) of the classic Riesling fruit flavours. Sweet apples, but laced with a minerally character. It really doesn’t taste as sweet as that sounds, so good is the balance of this wine. No rush to drink; give it a decade if you like.

Quite good in parts but disjointed. Opened with clear herbal notes and heavy on the sweetness, but with air (over 45 mins) developed enough acidity to balance the wine and notes of pears and apricots. My bet is that this one needs to rest further so it coheres. Overall, lacking the structure and definition I would expect.

2013 Leitz (SF Wine Trading Company): Medium yellow. Some honey on the nose and already quite aromatic. Citrus fruit, round entry, fairly rich feel (Auslese level must, perhaps?), but lovely acidity buffers things. Long finish of mouth coating soil. I liked this one as well.

This just did not work for me. Not enough acidity to balance the sweetness. Possibly an off bottle but a disappointment

80 g socker per liter, men knivskarp syra som balanserar upp det fint. Komplex doft och smak med toner av passionsfrukt.
