Community Tasting Notes (8) Avg Score: 92.1 points

  • Classically styled with crushed black cherry, plum, balsamico, licorice and florals. Primary, generous fruit with taut acidity and fine, grippy tannin. Traditional and silky with loads of Monforte power. Fun now and upside from here.

  • I like the 2005 Barolos right in a forward, fruit-driven stage of development that highlights the vintage's ripeness while also showing some nuance and restraint of age. This is a meticulously balanced Barolo in a very traditional style with so much floral and musk complexity. Delicious now and should hold and even improve over a decade+

  • Retiring complex aromas of leather, flowers, asnd prosciutto. Superb focus of clear sweet berry fruit on the palate, with a lovely ringing acid finish. Excellent with Sally's pizza. 50 + 17 + 16 + 9 = 92.

  • Opened and decanted 1.5 hours ahead of mixed steak, vinegerate salad, macaroni, and beans. Dark crimson-ruby color. The nose is extremely potent and perfumed, bringing cherry blossoms, red roses, lavender oil, spearmint, and savory herbs and spices. The palate is medium, square, puckery, and extremely concentrated, bringing cherry bitters, raspberries, cranberries, blackberries, smoke, and a variety of vermouth/botanical notes, including bark, flowers, roots, herbs, seeds, mushrooms, and spices. The finish lasts almost a minute and with dry candied strawberry notes surfing waves of juicy acidity and refined tannins. This is cleary a sophisticated and complex wine that is still in its early stages of a long life. However, as much as I respect Nebbiolo (especially Barolo), I can never seem to enjoy it as much as I appreciate it. Drink now through 2040. Technical score: 93. Enjoyment score: 91.
